13/06/2022

It is no longer a sensation, but is ratified by all the reports that are published on the consumption of sugar among Spanish minors. 40% of minors are already overweight due to obesity.

This headline is really worrying enough for the Authorities not to start doing something as soon as possible: Nutritionists estimate that children in Spain consume up to five times more sugar, although we do have to differentiate between sugar present in food and added. However, despite being a necessary food in minors for their development, its consumption must be moderated so as not to cause it to create a serious health problem.

healthy sugar

We will never try to demonize sugar, but we must know how to treat it in its different developments. It is found naturally in fruits, vegetables, and some grains, as well as in the form of lactose in milk and milk products. There they are essential for the diet of a minor who is forming until adulthood. It is what is called free sugar.

According to the WHO free sugar is, “all monosaccharides and disaccharides added to foods and beverages by the manufacturer, cook or consumer, other than sugar naturally present in honey, syrups, fruit juices and fruit juice concentrates”.

Excessive consumption of sugar in children: its effects

The WHO recommends that the maximum daily added sugar intake be 25 grams for adults and 16 grams for children.

According to experts, there is clear scientific evidence that free and added sugars are the main contributor to weight gain, obesity, tooth decay, and other adverse health effects. Therefore, it is advisable to consume sugar, whenever possible, naturally, through breast milk and sugar-free dairy products such as natural yogurt. It is also recommended that children eat fresh whole fruits, instead of sugary dairy products.

And the figures are very worrying. More than 50% of children consume sugars above the recommended amount (source: Ministry of Consumption year 2021), that means that they consume approximately their own weight in sugar throughout the year. And about 40% (4 out of 10, are overweight due to obesity). And it is that the high consumption of sugar is directly related to the overweight y the obesity.

Another effect of excess of this substance in children is that can cause behavioral changes such as hyperactivity, anxiety and depression may be related to the abuse of its consumption.

Several studies support the idea that it can produce problems with concentration, memory and learning. This is revealed by an investigation from which it was deduced in 2012 that adolescents with obesity had worse results in arithmetic, spelling, attention and mental flexibility. Other studies from European universities found that eating too much sugar and other carbohydrates damages both the physical structure of the brain and its function.

Enough reasons without a doubt how to control the consumption in our children.

Healthier diet and more physical exercise

The recipe to reduce these excesses of added sugars in minors is to replace these sugary products with other unprocessed foods, such as fruits and vegetables, because they naturally contain sugar and are essential for nutritional balance and for a lower-calorie diet.

And complement it with regular physical exercise. Thus, a body balance will be achieved between the calories that are ingested with the burning of the same with the sport.

Sucralín: a real alternative

The development of Sucralin as an alternative to sugar, it was based precisely on creating a product of natural origin, sugar cane, that could be consumed by all people (including people with Diabetes and minors), and that would fit into all healthy diets. We started in 2010, and time has been proving us right. The excessive consumption of added sugars has created a generation of overweight people, who may develop other diseases in adulthood such as cardiovascular problems or diabetes, among other pathologies.

Among the features that we can find in Sucralin, is that it does not contain calories on sugar, so, as it is not metabolized, it does not cause overweight. This aspect is very encouraging for its consumption, since if we add it, its equivalence with sugar is 1gr of Sucralin = 7 gr of sugar, the amount that should be ingested to sweeten drinks, or other dishes, is very small.

If in addition, we can cook and bake with Sucralin, we will be able to continue sweetening recipes and drinks aimed at children, but with a smaller amount, and without calories, and with the same sweet taste of sugar as always. And it is addressed to the whole society. In other words, it is a product suitable for all people, including people who have more problems with sugar, such as diabetics. In this aspect, we have become a reference for this group, which finds in Sucralin, “a healthy sugar”.

One more aspect to highlight to recommend it among minors is that it sweetens, but does not cause cavities, one of the great problems that sugar does cause.

Sucralin It is the alternative to sugar for adults and also for the little ones in the house (it has no contraindications), thanks to its formula it contributes to reducing cardiovascular problems that do occur with sugar and it is created and manufactured in Spain.
