It is considered that the Romans (210 BC) were the true promoters of viticulture in the Duero basin, invading the previously Vaccean territory and totally destroying the city under the orders of the Carthaginian general Hannibal.

On January 11, 1.505, the 83 laws were proclaimed in Toro, this being the headquarters of the Cortes; a city that centuries later would be consolidated as the capital of the province. There are numerous documents that throughout these years order, regulate and recognize the cultivation of the vine and its economic importance in the city. The wine from Toro traveled to the New World baptizing its discovery, due to characteristics that made it last and preserve itself on such long journeys.

After the phylloxera invasion in Spain in the year 1.870, the cultivation of the vine underwent a great reconversion, and it is in Toro where the Tinta de Toro variety anchors its roots in loose and well-drained sandy soils, conserving to this day the multiplication of the vineyard in free foot. On this date Toro has its own Wine Station located in the city providing technical services to the wine demands of the moment. On May 26, 1933, Toro was granted the Denomination of Origin for the first time. (Gazette Publication June 4, 1933)

In 1990, the Junta de Castilla y León was immersed in a clonal and sanitary selection plan for the vine, rescuing and multiplying the autochthonous varieties of the Community, including Tinta de Toro, which currently enjoys the seal certification as an autochthonous variety, with its own name, with well-defined agronomic and ampelographic characteristics. Its trade is issued with a blue label and its corresponding clone number.

Its ampelographic characteristics are very similar to Tempranillo or Tinto Fino, but which, nestled in the area for several centuries, identifies it with its own name and personality, different from its peers. They must contain at least 75% of the grapes of this variety.

DO Bull

Information about Latarce

Bodega Latarce is located right at the entrance to Toro, land par excellence of great wines and gastronomy. The devotion to the wines made in this area led to the dream of making our own exclusive wines come true. In 2006 the San José family decided to acquire their first vineyards and experiment with some traditional elaborations based on the experience of local winemakers and winegrowers, but it was not until 2010 that the “Latarce” brand was created and registered. During the following years, long-term contracts are formalized with wine growers from some of the oldest and most representative vineyards in the area that encompasses the Toro appellation of origin.

The dream grew and became palpable with the facilities of Bodegas y Viñedos Castillo Latarce, inaugurated in 2019. A farm of more than one hectare with magnificent facilities that emulate the old castle and wall of San Pedro de Latarce, a symbol of defense of the traditions.

His cellar is the jewel of the house. A dream come true.

Modern and innovative facilities, capable of combining values such as functionality, hygiene and above all our commitment to the environment as a philosophy of life based on renewable energies, They have well water with their own sounding, electricity through photovoltaic panels and sewage system with its own treatment plant.

A pampered space that houses all the necessary machinery for the production of our precious wines with the latest technology and manual control, always betting on good taste and good work.

They maintain a rigorous quality and exclusivity in all our elaborations. Their wines are highly appreciated by consumers who seek excellence in each bottle, which is why they maintain a strong commitment to quality in all processes, from the vineyard itself to bottling and labeling, all of which are carried out manually.

The Bodega Latarce vineyards are spread over some of the different areas covered by the Toro appellation of origin. Between the ages of 50 and more than 80 years, the different vineyards give shape and personality to our wines, which, together with the marked characteristics of the soils in the area, give them an elegant and complex structure.

To maintain respect for the terroir, it is the local winegrowers themselves who are responsible for the care and maintenance of the vine under the supervision of our winemaking team.

In short, a winery that has, on its own merit, its place of honor in our Made in Spain Gourmet store.
