Women "drink" Spanish wine

03/03/2022

It is a reality that comforts us. And we could even call it normal to see around us, owners of high quality Spanish wine cellars. And for Made in Spain Gourmet, a real pleasure to share it with our customers

Women "drink" Spanish wine

At the beginning of our journey, the great Zoltan nagy, wine connoisseur de Made in Spain Gourmet, already alerted us that Spain was in the midst of a revolution in the world of wine. The woman was taking command of many wine cellars in Spain, and with frank success.

I was interested from the beginning to know the stories of some of them, and thanks to the essential book "Queen of Cups" with which Zoltan was recognized as a finalist in Macao in its category, I saw that the feminine soul of some wines had to be in our online gourmet shop

Female presence in all departments

What we have been able to confirm in these last two years is that every day there are more winemakers who embark on the hard work of harvesting, maceration and pumping over. How come there are also more women in the departments of sales, export, communication, advertising, marketing, wine tourism and public relations of the warehouses.

Although what we appreciate the most is that the percentage of women assuming the management of the winery or leading their own entrepreneurial project has also increased. Young women and mature women, some starting out, others with long experience, with different origins and backgrounds, all of them admirable and with stimulating lives in the wine sector.

In this article we will cite some of them with which we already have a good commercial relationship and, above all, an affinity towards the highest quality Spanish gastronomic product.

Maite Esteve Vins El Cep DO Penedés and Cava

She is currently the General Director of Vins EL Cep, a winery born in 1980 in Penedés, and owned by four families, Carreras, Esteve, Masana and Parera.

Starting in 1980, they pooled their knowledge to produce and market terroir wines and cavas.

Maite Esteve, She is the one who leads this reality with enthusiasm and feminine intuition. It must be emphasized that it is a unique case, where 4 families of winegrowers, who had vineyards since 1448, have always been friends and started the project 42 years ago. And it is one of the few companies in the cava sector, still, that are run by women.

Maite projects with her strength and passion, the Penedés to the world through her wines and cavas. But also of her endless travels around the world. Because what we appreciate the most about her is when she begins to expose her cavas and wines to the people who come to visit her, either at the winery or at an event. She is always available to everyone and explain the secrets of her biodynamic cellars. You dig her, especially the Rosé Pinot Noir and Blanc de noirs, they triumph among our female collective, and we always have it in the fridge to toast to life.

Rosalia Molina, Altolandon DO Manchuelo

Rosalía's story is idyllic, because, unlike Maite Esteve, she did not come from a wine-growing family, and even so, she was passionate about wine and everything that surrounded that world. She, together with her husband, made the decision to dedicate themselves to making wine in Landete, Cuenca, where he was from, in 1998, and they created highlandon. That's where it all started. We certainly didn't know where the DO Manchuela (Castilla la Mancha), and we didn't know who Rosalía Molina was either. But the trust in Zoltan nagy is always blind when we talk about wines.

Bodega Altolandon is a winery that is high up (1.100m) and that gives its wines that differentiating characteristic of wines from the sea. She, together with her husband, created a winery where what they wanted was to recover native grapes such as Bobal and Garnacha, and also add international grapes such as syrah, tempranillo, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and malbec.
In addition, it is capable of creating a real ice wine (Sweet January) that is harvested in the month of January at no less than eight degrees below zero!!! Which is comparable to what is made in Germany or Canada.

Restless person who knows perfectly well that in order to succeed you have to travel the world offering our products, with care and passion, but also with the utmost professionalism. We love her wines, with a marked personality and bottles full of colors like life itself.

Adriana and Beatriz Ochoa, Bodega Ochoa DO Navarra

They represent the sixth generation of a wine-growing family and, as they say, they got up with the clear idea of working in the fields and always seeking quality in the wine while being faithful to their principles, their land and their history.

the wine from Ochoa Wineries It is born in its house, on its land, it grows on its vines and its strains and it finishes its formation in its cellar, respecting the natural balance of the land to the maximum and being one of the most advanced wineries in R&D.

adriana ochoa they say he understands wine like his father, javier ochoa, fifth generation of the winery. Because it's like him: slow, thoughtful until they are struck by something and they become a cyclone. After having studied in France, Catalonia and Australia, he returned to the family winery to become its Technical Director, and together with his sister Beatriz, he has the challenge of taking the reins of Bodegas-Ochoa and continuing to make it bigger and more international. .

Beatrice Ochoa she is the little one, but she also has wine in her veins. She is the quality, the detail to make Ochoa wines of excellent quality. It manages its marketing and commercial management so that the wines are known internationally and are sold. After her journey through the United Kingdom, she returned to develop with Adriana all of her potential for the family business.

Alejandra Sanz, Menade Winery

Menade wineries was founded in 2005, but Alejandra, Marco and Richard (the Sanz brothers) are the sixth generation of a family dedicated to wine.

The true history of the family began in 1820, when the ancestors cultivated the vineyard in various localities today attached to the DO Rueda. The elaboration of the wines was carried out in what today has been baptized as 'Menade by Secala', an underground cellar dug out of the rock in the early XNUMXth century.

But at the beginning of the XNUMXst century, the Sanz brothers decided to start their own project: Alexandra Sanz in export and communication, Marco Sanz in viticulture and Richard Sanz in oenology, based on respect for nature and a return to tradition. Alejandra and her brothers have a way of thinking and working vintage, and that has made them, ironically, innovators in the wheel zone.

Alejandra is the face, and the image of Menade, in Spain and around the globe. That spirit that young people have of never stopping growing and internationalizing has made them in more than 40 countries , but what they transmit is returning to the ancestral, making organic wines full of history and recovering native varieties such as Verdeja.

Menade he distanced himself from the DO in 2015 and does not share the latest decisions that have been made in Rueda, especially those related to the overplanting of vineyards. They believe that this goes against the quality of the final product. Menade does the opposite, protecting the vineyards so that their wines are of increasingly higher quality.

For Made in Spain Gourmet , their wines are fantastic, one of the best sellers in our online gourmet store, and we admire them for everything they have generated in the last 17 years... and what is yet to come. Alejandra is sure that she will continue conquering new countries and new markets.
