Torremilanos Estate

75 cl bottle

A tribute to tradition, to the fascinating claret. The reflection of a very old vineyard in which more than 10 varieties are mixed. A very gastronomic wine that lends itself to surprising pairings. A rosé made in the traditional way and also ecological and biodynamic, like all Finca Torremilanos wines. From vineyards between 80 and 180 years old in the Ribera del Duero, with 100% native varieties. A wine, also without clarifying, without filtering and without added sulfur. The traditional color type of this rosé was called Ojo Gallo, while in other parts of Europe it was called Ojo de Perdiz. Made in Spain Gourmet always offers the best of Spanish gastronomy.

Description

Made in the traditional way, Ojo Gallo is the most special rosé from Finca Torremilanos that pursues the winery's objective of recovering authentic flavors and practices from the land of Ribera de Duero. Its name alone is a statement of intent, as it is named for its characteristic color, a fine claret, the result of a mixture of different varieties of white and red grapes, which partially ferment with the skins, whose proportion used to respond in times to suit the winegrower.

Las Majadillas, in the DO Ribera del Duero

Ojo Gallo 2021 comes from vineyards located to the east of Torremilanos, in the sub-zone of Las Majadillas (specifically, from the old vineyard plots of Marciano, Taxista and Titón), within the DO Ribera de Duero. In addition, red grapes from the Monte, located in the center of the main hill of the farm, are incorporated in order to increase the proportions of red grapes (60%) compared to white (40%). These are 100% autochthonous varieties (Tempranillo, Viura, Albillo, Garnacha and Bobal) from which this wine emerges, with great personality, made without clarifying, without filtering and without added sulfur. Like all Finca Torremilanos wines, it is organic and biodynamic.

The harvest takes place first thing in the morning, during the second half of September. After a seven-day maceration with indigenous yeasts, fermentation begins. The tumultuous phase is carried out in 225-liter barrels, where it remains for 10 months, while it undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, until it is bottled (in July 2022).

Ojo Gallo 2021 is a wine with a bright color, with subtle aromas and flavors from the Ribera del Duero land. A gastronomic wine, rich in sensations that change and evolve as it is aerated.

Information about Finca Torremilanos

Torremilanos is located in the heart of the Ribera de Duero, near the city of Aranda de Duero and in a place characterized by being one of the centers of wine culture and wine tourism in the area.

The vineyards are located on the southern bank of the Douro River at an altitude of 800 to 900 meters. The area is varied in terms of terrain composition, orientation, altitude and microclimate. Its vineyards are heterogeneous and are made up of different plots in the surroundings of Torremilanos.

At Finca Torremilanos they practice rainfed agriculture, cultivating the vineyards without herbicides or insecticides following the criteria of biodynamic agriculture. They are consideredArtisans of the land¨ practicing 100% ecological and biodynamic agriculture.

More than a century of experience

After a long century of life, Finca Torremilanos is one of the pioneering wine companies of the DO Ribera de Duero. It has more than 200 hectares of its own vineyards with plots that are more than 100 years old, all of them located in the mountains surrounding the winery, 600 meters south of the Duero. The Hotel Torremilanos and the production and aging cellar are located on the farm, where all the production and aging of red, white and rosé wines and the production of cava are concentrated, in a different area from the previous one. In the cellar, 2.800 barrels are stored. Torremilanos is deeply proud of being able to maintain their cooperage, where they work faithfully to traditional production methods. Since 2008 organic practices have been extended to 100% of the vineyard and since 2011 Finca Torremilanos wines have been certified organic. In addition, in Torremilanos the criteria of biodynamic agriculture are followed, with the official certification of this practice, the Demeter seal.

The Torremilanos wine tradition dates back to 1903, although it was in 1975 when the Peñalba López family acquired the estate.

Convinced of the quality of the native grape, the Tempranillo variety and connoisseurs of the art of viticulture, Pablo Peñalba decides to increase the number of his own vineyards to reach the 200 hectares that the family owns today. All of them are located in the mountains surrounding the winery and are cared for following a philosophy of respect for the environment that allows all the wines of Bodega Torremilanos to be certified as organic.

The quality of the grapes, the soil, the climate, the own cooperage and the special conditions of the winery ensure optimal aging and the quality of its wines.
