The Rioja winemaker Marcos Eguren has been distinguished as 'Winemaker of the Year' by the prestigious British prescriber Tim atkin in his report "Special Report Rioja 2023".

The prize is the reward for the oenological work of Marcos Eguren as representative of one of the most renowned families in La Rioja, winegrowers from Saint Vincent of the Sonsierra, who began their relationship with the vineyards in the last decades of the XNUMXth century.

Since 1870, over 4 generations, the Eguren family has dedicated itself to the cultivation of vineyards and the production and aging of the best Rioja wines. Keeping knowledge and tradition alive, they have been able to transmit it from parents to children, always adapting them to technological advances and respect for the land and the vine.

Born in the town of Sonserra, Mark Eguren forms an unbeatable duo with his brother Miguel Eguren, the fourth generation of a family that began bottling its production under the Sierra Cantabria brand in 1957.

Marcos Eguren completed his Oenology studies between 1975 and 1978 at the Escuela de la Vid of the Casa de Campo in Madrid. In the 80s, he took over from his father Guillermo's father in the family's makings. After a first stage in which he promoted the harvest wines that the family made, faithful to the Sonsierra carbonic maceration method, he contributed to laying the foundations of the Rioja revolution, encouraged by his brother Miguel, to produce wines that respected the uniqueness of the terroir, in order to obtain the maximum character and identity.
