Spanish honey, another Spanish gastronomic product of excellent quality

18/11/2020

It is an ancestral product, but it is always one of the favorites in the shopping cart. And that the range of honeys in our country is very wide. In Spain there is a very wide and interesting beekeeping culture to know, so much so that it must be remembered that it is the country with the largest number of hives. And as in other national productive sectors, beekeepers know how to extract the best from their farms, and the result is a product of the highest quality.

Recognition of our honey

It must be recognized that it is a product that has done its homework well internationally, because despite the fact that they are very handcrafted products, foreign demand does not stop growing. Its prestige grows day by day not only in recognitions and awards, but also in the production demanded abroad. But there is a catch. And it is that what we succeed abroad, we do not achieve in the domestic market. Incredible but true. Just the opposite of other products that are difficult to find but are in high demand at the domestic level. And it is not that little honey is consumed here, but rather that we consume non-Spanish honey, once again the good is out of the way and here it is difficult for us to taste it. The Made in Spain it triumphs outside but here we do not appreciate it.

The excellent quality of Spanish honey

What is Spanish honey like?

We have different types of honeys in Spain, because each area where they are made has different types of orographic characteristics, although their properties and flavor are of the highest level, and in Europe they have a lot of pull.

Here it has a lot to do with how Spanish beekeepers work, who have been able to transmit this wonderful profession from generation to generation. Because honey has not made many innovations when it comes to obtaining it, rather they continue to use artisanal extraction methods. However, without the bees that we have in Spain, nothing could be possible. Another factor that we should protect for the future if we want to continue making extra quality honey.

Representative honeys of Spain

In this general context, among the different spanish honeys we must highlight the honey mediterranean for its peculiarities. It stands out for its softness. Comes from orange blossom or rosemary. They are typical of regions of the Spanish Levante. So the honeys from the Valencian Community or Murcia are very aromatic, delicate and digestive.

However, in other parts of the country we can find excellent types that are born in mountainous or wooded areas. As for example the chestnut, heather, acacia and eucalyptus honey, from areas such as Galicia or Asturias.

Already from the south of the peninsula the thyme honey, orange, lavender and bramble flowers.

Honeys with identity: Mieles Alemany

Within the entire universe of this product in Spain there are some honeys that are proud to have their identity. They are those who have achieved the seal of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). These badges recognize the qualities of this honey, which is linked to a specific geographic environment or the human factor, among several of the indicators that are taken into account.

En MadeinSpain.store we have selected Germany 1879, the Montsec (Lérida), which has specialized in monofloral honeys, which are collected from beekeepers in the area. The innovation in Alemany brings you the concept of honey with added value, in its gourmet honey line. After five generations, they are still like the first day, doing things excellently. Alemany honey has been recognized with the Great Taste Awards on different occasions, an award considered the Oscar of the world of delicatessen food.

Other top honey in Spain

Note the honey from La Alcarria, which has its origin between the provinces of Guadalajara and Cuenca. It is the most famous because it was the first to obtain its Denomination of Origin. Well known is also the Liébana Honey PDO, in Cantabria. Then, others with this seal are the honey of GrenadaTenerife and Villuercas-Ibores, in the province of Cáceres. On the other hand, the only one with IGP is that of Galicia.

And we have to finish this review by naming the most expensive honey in Europe, from the Bierzo Beekeeping Cooperative and made in the Leonese town of Camponaraya. As we can see, the prestige of the spanish honey you pay because it is a product of enormous quality. Its excellence, properties and flavor are worth enjoying.
