Varieties of grapes
The Tempranillo grape, also known in the region as Tinta del País or Tinto Fino, is our main variety, which gives the characteristic colour, aroma and body to the red wines of the Ribera del Duero. To a lesser extent, we also grow other varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Garnacha Tinta. The main authorized white grape variety is Albillo Mayor.
Tempranillo
The Tempranillo grape produces wines with a strong violet color. Blackberry aromas stand out, combined with black berries of the forest. Structured to sweet tannin when overripe, medium acidity.
Cabernet Sauvignon
It provides wines with high acidity, aromas of green pepper stand out, which turn to black fruits in overripe. Accused tannin.
Merlot
Wine of medium acidity, aromas of black fruit stand out combined with nuances of nuts. Medium tannin.
Malbec
High acidity wine, aromas of black fruit stand out combined with nuances of menthol balsamic. Medium tannin.
Red garnacha
Aromatic wines in which the ripe strawberry predominates, with little color and medium acidity. Medium tannin. High oxidative potential.
Albillo Mayor
Aromatic wines dominated by pome and stone fruits, apple and peach, with a very subtle color, between pale straw yellow and pale steely. Medium acidity.
