Bull ink

It is considered that the Romans (210 BC) were the true promoters of viticulture in the Duero basin, invading the previously Vaccean territory and totally destroying the city under the orders of the Carthaginian general Hannibal.

On January 11, 1.505, the 83 laws were proclaimed in Toro, this being the headquarters of the Cortes; a city that centuries later would be consolidated as the capital of the province. There are numerous documents that throughout these years order, regulate and recognize the cultivation of the vine and its economic importance in the city. The wine from Toro traveled to the New World baptizing its discovery, due to characteristics that made it last and preserve itself on such long journeys.

After the phylloxera invasion in Spain in the year 1.870, the cultivation of the vine underwent a great reconversion, and it is in Toro where the Tinta de Toro variety anchors its roots in loose and well-drained sandy soils, conserving to this day the multiplication of the vineyard in free foot. On this date Toro has its own Wine Station located in the city providing technical services to the wine demands of the moment. On May 26, 1933, Toro was granted the Denomination of Origin for the first time. (Gazette Publication June 4, 1933)

In 1990, the Junta de Castilla y León was immersed in a clonal and sanitary selection plan for the vine, rescuing and multiplying the autochthonous varieties of the Community, including Tinta de Toro, which currently enjoys the seal certification as an autochthonous variety, with its own name, with well-defined agronomic and ampelographic characteristics. Its trade is issued with a blue label and its corresponding clone number.

Its ampelographic characteristics are very similar to Tempranillo or Tinto Fino, but which, nestled in the area for several centuries, identifies it with its own name and personality, different from its peers. They must contain at least 75% of the grapes of this variety.

DO Bull

The DO was officially founded in 1987 by six covered wineries, today there are more than 60 and the wines are sold practically all over the world, with a special presence in the national market. Toro is one of the Spanish Denominations of Origin with the most old vineyards, it is worth noting the pre-phylloxera vines in glass and the queen variety, Tinta de Toro, with a high coloring layer and great aging capacity.

Information about Sierra Cantabria

Since 1870, over 5 generations, the Eguren family has dedicated itself to the cultivation of vineyards and the production and aging of the best Rioja wines. Keeping knowledge and tradition alive, they have been able to transmit it from parents to children, always adapting them to technological advances and respect for the land and the vine.

The family and its wineries enjoy national and international prestige, areas in which they have been deserving of distinctions and awards.

Teso La Monja ushered in a new era in Toro. The brothers Marcos and Miguel Eguren, from Sierra Cantabria, have been contributing for years to the transformation of this town in Zamora. They "fell in love" with the vIejas prefiloxera strains of Toro and its ability to give birth to unique wines.

The success in the preparation of these wines was marked in several stages. At first, the Eguren brothers took over the winery Numanthia Termes in which they made the Termanthia wine with which they got 100 Parker points. In 2008 they sold this winery to Louis Vuitton Möet Hennessy (LVMH) to start a solo journey and look for new vineyards with very specific characteristics, also in Toresan lands. These vineyards also have more gravel on the surface, are oriented to the north and have longer vegetative cycles. All this with the aim of obtaining wines that convey balance and elegance, extracting the maximum potential of the land.

These vineyards also have more gravel on the surface, are oriented to the north and have longer vegetative cycles. All with the aim of obtaining wines that convey balance and elegance, extracting the maximum potential from the earth.

The construction of the winery Teso The Nun it was started, however, before the sale of Numanthia Termes to LVMH. It was in 2006, on a few hectares of attached vineyard. There is a winery of sober architectural beauty in whose design the most current vision in the production of great wines is perfectly combined with the experience, history and good work of the past.

Modernity on strong foundations. In this context, the wines are made RomanesqueAlmirez, Victorino, Alabaster and Teso La Monja. Wines that transmit the essences of the Bull ink with subtlety and freshness, two characteristic attributes of all Eguren wines.

strains. Thus, Teso the Nun has 90 hectares of planted vineyards, mostly in direct and native standing, located in the towns of Valdefinjas, Toro and Villabuena.

In Teso the Nun there is also a sustainable agriculture, with organic fertilizer and a delicate work in the cellar. Traditional methods are combined with the most modern technology to extract mineral nuances from privileged soils.
